10 Eco Valentines Crochet Patterns

Updated: 10th July 2023

Here are 10 eco friendly valentines crochet patterns that would be perfect as gifts for loved ones, family and friends.

How to Make Valentines Day More Eco

Valentines Day is coming up and I can’t help but think about all the waste that comes with it? I think what drives all the waste is trying to sort out a gift last minute and convenience. Both of these things mean we head to the shops to find something quick and this usually ends up being something that the recipient doesn’t necessarily want, something that is only used on Valentines Day or it will come with some kind of plastic. I think the answer is to slow down.

We live our lives in such a rushed state and we don’t give ourselves time to really think about things anymore but this is the key. It all comes back to slow living, really taking everything in, being mindful about our actions, really thinking about what the other person would like or not like and taking the time to do/make/find this thing.

It could be spending time together outdoors instead of a tangible gift or it could be spending the time to make something for them that they will appreciate or finding a gift from a local handmade business that you know your loved ones would really love.

A birds eye view of a burgundy, crocheted heart sat on an off white surface. There is a silver crochet hook and darning needle coming in from the left, a pair of scissors on the right and a green succulent at the top.

If you’re thinking about crocheting something for this Valentines Day then I’ve put together this list of 10 eco friendly, sustainable crochet patterns to get us inspired. We still have plenty of time to make something and they are all gifts that can be used all year round.

Comfy Slippers - Crochet Milie

I couldn’t write this post without this slipper pattern. I made these for myself and my partner last year and I absolutely love them. They are also the ultimate eco friendly gift if made using a natural yarn. I can’t even begin to imagine how many synthetic slippers are bought and thrown out every year. We can help change that by making our own and this pattern is the one to do it with.

Lotte Lace Crochet Corner Bookmark - Blue Star Crochet

This pattern really resonates with me. I love reading and I’m constantly misplacing my bookmarks. I might just make this one for myself :) Made with 100% cotton this corner bookmark will last a lot longer than the thin card ones you get from the bookshop and won’t bend or break like the plastic or metal ones. A great gift for bookworms.

Make a romantic night in even more snug with these minimalist candle cosies. You don’t need to go out and spend loads of money, you could just set the right mood and cook a warm homemade meal instead.

Hemp Mushroom Foraging Bag - byGoldenberry

In love with a mushroom forager? Make them a hemp bag specifically designed for harvesting mushrooms. The hemp yarn makes this crochet pattern super sustainable and the design purposefully has plenty of holes so that the spores of the mushrooms continue to fall to the ground as they forage.

Tea Rose Spa Set - Sweet Softies

We all need a bit of extra self care at the moment. This would be a great gift for anyone who cares about the environment but also needs some encouragement to enjoy a bath every now and then and not be so hard on ourselves (am I talking about me again?) The 100% cotton set includes a face scrubby, bath pouf, soap saver and washcloth.
