A sustainable crochet coin purse pattern that creates a functional coin pouch that is really quick and easy to make.

Small enough to fit in your handbag but big enough to see all of your change easily in the palm of your hand.

Designed to replace plastic coin purses that eventually shed micro plastics. Using an eco-friendly yarn means that at the end of its life, this purse won’t damage the environment or our health.

A warm, dark grey coin purse that is a small circular pouch twisted closed at the top with a drawstring is perched ontop of a white hands fingers. The pouch is divided into 6 sections around creating a nice hexagonal twist.

The pouch has a circular shape to create a round base, that lays flat on your palm, with sides constructed in 6 symmetrical sections to create a hexagonal twist at the top when drawn together.

Which Yarn to Use

This pattern is designed with sport weight yarn. I used Grundl Eco Cotton, one of my favourite cotton yarns.

You will need roughly 25 grams / 60 yards / 50 metres.

Other Sustainable Yarn Recommendations

If Grundl Eco Cotton is not a good option for you, here are some other options that I think would work really well.

A birds eye view of the open, warm grey coin purse sat on a white left hand. The opening is shaped into a 6 pointed star. About two rows down there is a bright pink drawstring weaved all around. Inside the purse is a mix of coins.

Invisible Finish
Cut your yarn and pull the loop up so that the end of the yarn is pulled through the st. Skip the next st and weave the end of the yarn under both loops of the next sc. Then weave the end back through the centre of the last st of the round.

Next, weave in all your ends to complete the pouch.

Making a Tie
Choose a different coloured yarn to weave through the chain spaces on round 24. It can be fingering weight or something thicker like DK if you prefer. Tie a knot on both ends to stop them from fraying.

That’s it! Your new coin purse is ready!
